Bishop Ireton High School’s state-of-the art facility in Alexandria is the setting for the SCT’s summer musical Godspell. Directed by Dawn Scattolini, this production features a young and talented local cast. Show dates are July 18, 19, 25 and 26 and August 1 and 2 at 8:00 pm.

“I fell in love with Godspell many years ago,” says Scattolini. “The zaniness, the music, the moving and powerful story.”

To tell the story for SCT, Scattolini is setting her production in the 1980’s. “Every production of Godspell has its own flavor and setting. I chose the excess and vanity of the 80’s, but the fundamental message is always the same.”

Scattolini believes that while Godspell is the story of Jesus and his teachings and disciples, it is really a story about humanity. “It’s about people learning to treat each other with dignity, kindness, love and respect.”

The energetic cast has been rehearsing since Mid-May to bring this story to the stage. Cathy Ebert is the musical director for the production with Jason Hunter as the stage manager. Scattolini is also doubling as choreographer and set designer. Producers are Barbara Porter and Jerry Green.

“Given the times we live in, Godspell remains so relevant. I can think of no more timely or urgent message, than the message of humanity and decency that this show carrries to its audience.”

The cast for Godspell includes: Michael Bigley as Jesus, Terry Spann as Judas, Meghan Shapiro as Robin, Janet Bourne as Sonia, Cristin Chase as Joanne, Iliana Inocencio as Peggy, Will Stewart, Jr. as Lamar, Arianna Geneson as Jeffrey, Joseph Bly as Herb, Monica Welch as Gilmer and chorus members Brandy McGraw, Jennifer Blanton, Ilene Gillispie, Rosalyn De la Pena, and Jill Siegel. The cast includes middle to high school and college students and working young professionals, all multi-talented and musically exceptional.
